Ronda Rousey

Ronda Jean Rousey (born February 1, 1987) is an American mixed martial artist and judoka. She is the first and current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, as well as the former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion. She has defeated all of her opponents by armbar in the first round. Rousey became the first American woman to earn an Olympic medal in Judo at the Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008.

Rousey trains under Gokor Chivichyan of the Hayastan MMA Academy, and Edmond Tarverdyan of the Glendale Fighting Club. She formerly trained at the Olympic Training Center in Wakefield, Massachusetts under guidance of Jimmy Pedro and is now part of Team Hayastan in Santa Monica, California. Rousey also trains with Romanian Leo Frîncu and Gene Lebell, along with Team Hayastan fighters such as Manny Gamburyan, Karen Darabedyan, Karo Parisyan and Sako Chivitchian. She is managed by Darin Harvey of Fight Tribe MMA. In July 2012, Rousey enlisted former undefeated boxing and kickboxing champion Lucia Rijker as striking coach.

Rousey is the consensus #1 pound-for-pound female MMA fighter in the world, according to MMARising, MMAWeekly, and many other publications. She is also ranked #1 at 135 pounds according to the Unified Women’s MMA Rankings.

Bruce Buffer

Bruce Buffer is the official Octagon announcer for UFC events. On UFC broadcasts, he is introduced as the “Veteran Voice of the Octagon”. He is the half brother of the well-known boxing and professional wrestling ring announcer Michael Buffer, and is the President and CEO of their company “The Buffer Partnership”. Both Michael and Bruce are grandsons of late boxer Johnny Buff. Buffer holds a black belt in Tang Soo Do and has fought as a kickboxer.

Buffer always begins each PPV with the phrase “Ladies and gentlemen, we…are…live!” Before each main event Buffer proclaims, “This is the main event of the evening,” followed by “This is the moment you’ve all been waiting for,” and finally, “It’s time!” before introducing the final two fighters. His phrases are chimed in a similar fashion to his half-brother Michael’s phrase “Let’s get ready to rumble!”.

Along with his catch phrases, Buffer has a signature move, which he has called the “Buffer 180″ where he motions directly across the Octagon before quickly spinning 180° and pointing to the corner being introduced. Buffer performs 45° and 90° turns before most fights, but reserves the “Buffer 180″ for main events and co-main events. At UFC 100, Buffer performed a “Buffer 360″ during his introduction of Frank Mir v. Brock Lesnar. Buffer vowed he would never do the “Buffer 360″ again. Regardless of this vow, he’s stated on his radio show on the Sherdog Radio Network, that he might perform the 360 in “the spur of the moment.” He also performs the “Buffer Bow” exclusively for Randy Couture, in which he bends down as a knight would to a king in the accolade.

Buffer has announced many other MMA promotions internationally including K-1 events and also the 2008 Casamayor/Katsidis boxing event on HBO. He also announces for the ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club) submission wrestling tournament held every two years around the world.

Buffer is a very well known and world rated poker player on the professional circuit. He has appeared on ESPN’s World Series of Poker Main Event show playing World Champion Chris Moneymaker at the televised table in 2007 and made the Final Table of the World Poker Tour, in the Season 3 Invitational at the Commerce Casino, where he placed 6th. He appeared on an MMA versus poker pro match during the sixth season of the NBC show Poker After Dark along with Strikeforce Fighter Dan Henderson and UFC Fighter Randy Couture. Outlasting both his aforementioned MMA peers as well as pros Erick Lindgren and Patrik Antonius, Buffer finished second in that contest, losing in heads-up play to Howard Lederer. At the World Series of Poker 2010 main event final table Bruce Buffer was given the honor to start the final table with the poker phrase “Shuffle up and deal!” As of September 2010, the Luxor Las Vegas has named their Poker room after Bruce Buffer.

Buffer has appeared on some TV shows. On Friends, his appearance was in Season 3 Episode 24 “The One with the Ultimate Fighting Champion”. On the HBO series Entourage, he appeared in the episode entitled “Gotcha!”, announcing an exhibition fight for Chuck Liddell’s charity. On March 20, 2012 Bruce was featured on the Comedy Central show Tosh.0.

He is also the official announcer for the World Series of Beer Pong.

Brendan Schaub

Schaub was born and raised in Aurora, Colorado. He was an all-state performer in football and lacrosse at Overland High School after high school he attended Division III Whittier College where he was a member of both the football and lacrosse teams. Prior to his junior year he transferred to the University of Colorado, where he redshirted his first season in Boulder, first playing tight end before moving to fullback. He went on to appear in 26 games during his career at Colorado with no starts.[2] After college, Schaub played professional football in the Arena Football League with the Utah Blaze and also spent time on the practice squad for the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.[1] He was a special guest on the Travel Channel show Ghost Adventures where they investigated the Peabody-Whitehead Mansion.

Steve-O (a.k.a. Stephen Glover) has become a household name and it all started when he snatched a video camera from his father’s closet when he was fifteen years old. From there he started producing homemade skateboarding videos featuring dangerous stunts mixed with comical behavior.

He was born in London and by the age of twelve, had lived in five countries and communicated fluently in three different languages. He holds citizenship in three countries – the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

After finishing high school in London, and completing a year at the University of Miami, Steve-O realized that college wasn’t for him. He enrolled in Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Clown College to help further his goal of becoming a professional stuntman. After graduating Clown College, and determined to make it in Hollywood, he began to pitch his home videos to producers.

Eventually, Steve-O’s videos made it into the hands of Jeff Tremaine (Jackass Creator/Director/Producer) who was working with Johnny Knoxville to create a stunt based reality show. The rest is history. MTV aired the first season of JACKASS in 2000. In 2001, Steve-O launched his own “Steve-O Don’t Try This At Home Tour”, establishing himself as an accomplished stage performer, at venues throughout the U.S. and in a dozen countries.

When the JACKASS TV series ended in 2002, the team moved on to JACKASS: THE MOVIE, released by Paramount in October of that year. Shortly thereafter, Steve-O and fellow JACKASS alum, Chris Pontius, were given a spin-off show entitled WILDBOYZ, which aired on MTV and MTV2 and lasted four seasons. In 2006, Paramount released JACKASS: NUMBER 2 in theatres and Steve-O continued to thrill audiences with his outrageous stunts.

In 2009 he competed on ABC’s hit show, DANCING WITH THE STARS, and lasted six weeks, despite an injury and having virtually no dancing ability whatsoever.

Last year, Steve-O returned for the Paramount franchise in JACKASS 3D which turned out to be a huge hit at the box office for the third installment with JACKASS 3.5 soon out on DVD.

In the months leading up to the release of JACKASS 3D he immersed himself in standup comedy, which had been a part-time hobby during the previous four years. Successful performances at prestigious comedy venues such as LA’s Laugh Factory and New York City’s Comedy Cellar led to his current tour performing standup, stunts and bar-tricks across North America and abroad, which he dubbed “Steve-O’s Entirely Too Much Information Tour.” He has dates booked through the year.

Next up, Steve-O will release his autobiography, Professional Idiot: A Memoir, with publisher Hyperion Books releasing on June 7th of this year.

Most importantly, however, Steve-O has been clean and sober since March of 2008 and lives a healthy, vegan lifestyle in the Los Angeles area…but he still has no problem stapling his balls to his leg.

Actor, producer, director, journalist, photographer and writer Kenneth Joel Hotz was born May 3, 1973 in Toronto, Ontario. At a young age of 7, he already made his own first movie after attending a film camp and received a directing award from producer/director Henry Winkler for his effort. He eventually pursued a career in photography and started working as a lens man since 1986. His shots have captured different countries and several historic world events; among his photo essays are the “Mount Carmel Waco, Texas Aftermath” and “New Year’s in Time Square 2000.” Eventually, Kenny Hotz took an interest in creating documentaries. In 1991, he went to the Middle East and covered the Gulf War, where he became the only registered Canadian artist to do such coverage. His works were collected in the national and provincial archives of Canada. A photo entitled “Life Behind the Mask” earned him a best student photo in 1992. In the same year, he graduated from the Media Arts program of Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. Shortly after his graduation, he produced a short film about the life and death of the destitute dwarf Shorty Gordy. This comedy won at the Hot Docs Film Festival. In 1997, he co-wrote, co-directed and starred on Pitch, which documented two writers as they try to sell their ideas to the big and famous names in the movie industry. Among the celebrities they approached were Matt Dillon, Al Pacino, Haley Joel Osment and Whoopi Goldberg. His documentary titled The Papal Chase won the Phillip Borsos Award for Best Canadian Feature Film at the 2004 Whistler Film Festival, the People’s Choice Award at the 2005 Canadian Filmmakers Festival and the Audience Award at the 2005 Brooklyn International Film Festival. He was staff writer for the cartoons Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and South Park . Kenny Hotz is also known for the brains behind the concept of the 3D videogame “Versusville,” a nominee at the Canadian New Media Award for Excellence in Gaming. Later on, he starred on Comedy Central’s Kenny vs. Spenny , a show that centers on best friends Kenny and Spenny as they compete against each other in ridiculous, immature and totally intense fights. In 2008, Hotz joined the cast of another comedy series, FX’s Testees. Playing the character Larry, he worked alongside Steve Markle, Jeff Kassel, Joe Pingue, and Kim Schraner.

Sam Sheridan

I grew up in Western Massachusetts, the son of educators. My mother is an artist, a writer and a teacher, and my father is an ex-Navy Seal and the business manager of a New England prep school, Deerfield Academy (now retired). I learned to sail at an early age, as my father was an avid sailor who would move yachts for other people up and down the coast.

I went to Deerfield, which was a coat-and-tie prep school, and then went into the Merchant Marines, where I worked as a Steward Assistant (the lowest low-life, washing dishes) on the USNS Able. I spent about a year onboard her, mostly operating out of Norfolk, VA. Then I quit and spent some time traveling Europe.

I went to Harvard and majored in art (Visual and Environmental Studies). I spent my junior year at the Slade School in London, in a prestigious Studio Art program and I sort of “became” a painter at that point. I worked a summer on the largest cattle ranch in Montana, mostly driving tractors but some cowboy work.

Immediately after I graduated I took a job on the private sailing yacht Wireless, an ’85 Don Brooks ketch, as First Mate. After about a five month re-fit in Florida and Newport, RI, I was with her for a charter season in the Caribbean. I stayed on that yacht through 3 different captains, about 5 stewardesses and a variety of guests and engineers. We took her through the Panama Canal and on the “Milk Run” through the South Pacific. I was with her for a year and a half, all the way to Australia.

I got off and went to Thailand, where I lived in a Muay Thai camp and fought, featured on National Geographic’s “A Fighting Chance.” After my fight, my visa ran out so I rejoined a friend in Australia, and sailed from Darwin, Australia to Durban, South Africa on yacht Pamela, a ’38 Hans Christian. Again I quit the boat and wandered around South Africa for awhile.

After some time there I came home and temped in Boston until got a job doing construction in Antarctica for Raytheon. I met a smokejumper at the South Pole Station who got me into Wildland Firefighting and I fought fire the next two seasons in Washington State with the Ahtanum 20 and all over the West with the Gila Hotshots (as an EMT), and I helped a friend bring a yacht back from Mallorca (Spain) to Antigua (Carib.) on yacht Mustang after the season ended. I continue to do yacht deliveries and have been writing books for the last four years. My first book, “A Fighter’s Heart,” took me on a lengthy odyssey to Brazil and Japan. My second book, “The Fighter’s Mind,” is an investigation into the mental game of fighting, with essays and interviews with the best fighters and trainers in the world.

My third book, “The Disaster Diaries,” is the story of my personal quest to learn the skills to prepare for the Apocalypse. Not a ‘how-to’ but more of a big-picture memoir about the truth behind survival; a myth-busters for Armageddon fantasies.

In addition to this, Leguizamo recently starred in the independent film “Where God Left His Shoes”, in which he plays a struggling boxer desperately seeking a home for his family during the holidays.

In 1991, Leguizamo created an off-Broadway sensation as the writer and performer of his one-man show “Mambo Mouth,” in which he portrayed seven different characters. He received Obie, Outer Critics Circle and Vanguardia awards for his performance. The play’s HBO special led to his first television comedy special, Comedy Central’s “The Talent Pool,” for which he received a CableACE Award.

Leguizamo’s second one-man show, “Spic-O-Rama,” had an extended sold-out run in Chicago at the Goodman and Briar Street theaters before opening in New York. The play received numerous accolades including the Dramatists’ Guild Hull-Warriner Award for Best American Play and the Lucille Lortel Outstanding Achievement Award for Best Broadway Performance. Leguizamo received the Theatre World Award for Outstanding New Talent, as well as a Drama Desk Award for Best Solo Performance. “Spic-O-Rama” also aired on HBO, receiving four CableACE Awards.

“Freak,” Leguizamo’s third one-man show, ended a successful run on Broadway in 1998. Billed as a “Semi-Demi-Quasi-Pseudo Autobiography,” “Freak” was described as “scathingly funny” (The New York Times.) Along with the Tony Award nominations for Best Play and Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play, Leguizamo won the Drama Desk and the Outer Critic’s Circle Awards for Outstanding Solo Performance. A special presentation of “Freak,” directed by Spike Lee, aired on HBO and earned Leguizamo the Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance in a Variety or Music Program as well as a nomination for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special.

In Fall of 2001 Leguizamo returned to Broadway with “Sexaholix…a Love Story.” Directed by Peter Askin, the play is based on the sold-out national tour, “John Leguizamo Live!” Leguizamo was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award for “Outstanding Solo Performance” and the show received a Tony nomination for Best Special Theatrical Performance. “Sexaholix” aired as an HBO Special in Spring 2002 and also toured the country. Additional stage credits include “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “La Puta Vida” at the New York Shakespeare Festival and “Parting Gestures” at INTAR.

To add to his list of attributes, Leguizamo is also an accomplished author. He recently penned his autobiography “Pimps, Hos, Playa Hatas, and All the Rest of My Hollywood Friends,” which was released by Harper Collins in October 2006. The New York Times called the book “brutally funny,” while USA Today coined Leguizamo as “one of the most exciting talents to come along in some time.”

Raised in New York City, Leguizamo studied acting with Lee Strasberg and Wynn Handman at New York University. He was the recipient of the 2002 ALMA Award for Entertainer of the Year. Leguizamo currently resides in New York City with his wife and his two children.

Kevin Hart is an American actor, rapper, and comedian, born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Kevin started his career by winning several amateur comedy competitions at clubs throughout the New England area, and he got his first real break in 2001 when he was cast by Judd Apatow for a recurring role on the TV series Undeclared. The series only lasted one season, but it was enough for him to get his name out and land other roles in movies like Paper Soldiers, Scary Movie 3, and Along Came Polly. His comedic fame began to really grow with the release of his first real stand-up album I’m a Grown Little Man in 2009. This was followed by Seriously Funny in 2010, and most recently Laugh at My Pain in 2011, which was arguably his most successful stand-up act in his career so far.

Kevin married Torrie Hart in 2003 and has a daughter, Heaven Leigh Hart, and a son, Hendrix Hart, with her. The couple split after eight years of marriage in 2011, but he has still found a way to find the humor in his life experiences and work it into his stand-up. His relationship with his father was rough in his childhood because he was in and out of jail, so he and his older brother were raised by their single mother.

With his career only growing, Kevin has landed big time gigs like hosting the 2012 MTV Music Awards and the 2011 BET Awards. He’s also had several nominations for BET and Teen Choice Awards and also has won a BET Award for Best Actor in his own “Laugh at My Pain” in 2012.

Hunter isn’t really a native of anywhere. Born in Saudi Arabia, he’d lived in Brazil, Greece and New York before his family moved to England when he was eight years old. There he attended Eton College, England’s most stodgy and prestigious all-boys boarding school. After high school, he pursued his love of science by spending a year doing tumor virus research at Cold Spring Harbor laboratory, where he lived in the basement of the home of James Watson, Nobel Laureate and co-discoverer of the double helical structure of DNA. It was a no-brainer for Hunter to major in Biochemistry when he enrolled at Harvard College in the fall of 2000. While at Harvard, Hunter devoted his spare time and his electives to a mixture of pranks and foreign languages. Occasionally, he mixed the two.

After graduating, Hunter moved to Los Angeles and helped to found Overqualified Tutoring. A current owner of comically overstuffed bookshelves, Hunter has enjoyed tackling the one aspect of science that he has always found unsettling: the gap between the research that exists and the public’s knowledge. Today, Hunter spends his time finding more and more ways to bring those two together. When he’s away from the aforementioned bookshelves, Hunter can be found at cross-fit, eating Nicole’s food, or dreaming of Kansas City.

Christy Wampole joined the department as Assistant Professor of French in 2011. She received her Ph.D in both French and Italian from Stanford University in 2011 with a dissertation entitled “Late Twentieth-Century French and Italian Essayistic Fiction,” which analyzed various strands of essayistic thinking, style, and rhetorical strategies in fiction from the late 1960s to present in France, Italy, and beyond. Writers included in her project are Michel Tournier, Claudio Magris, Italo Calvino, Patrick Chamoiseau, Yannick Haenel, Édouard Glissant, and others. She spent a year at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris as a researcher and has published various articles, translations, and book reviews in Chimères: A Journal of French Literature, Quaderni di Synapsis, The French Review, Magazine littéraire, Quaderni del ‘900, and Yale French Studies.

She was managing editor of Modernism/Modernity and production manager for Professor Robert Harrison’s radio show Entitled Opinions on Stanford’s radio station KZSU 90.1. Her book project investigates rootedness as a pervasive literary, political, and philosophical theme in 20th-century French and Francophone culture. With examples from a wide range of writers and thinkers (Bachelard, Guillevic, Condé, Barrès, Gide, Weil, Levinas, Glissant, Deleuze, Guattari, Sartre), she illustrates the extent to which the root metaphor becomes erroneously literalized and used as a justification for everything from ultra-conservative nationalism to claims of hereditary inferiority of certain class and ethnic groups.

Arthur Steven “Artie” Lange, Jr. (born October 11, 1967) is an American actor, comedian and radio personality best known for his tenures with the The Howard Stern Show and the comedy sketch series MADtv.

Lange performed his first stand-up comedy routine at 19 years of age. He took up work as a longshoreman to help support his family, following the death of his quadriplegic father. In 1995, Lange starred in the first season of MADtv before leaving halfway through the second due to cocaine abuse and his subsequent arrest. After a period of rehabilitation, Lange featured in Dirty Work with Norm Macdonald, who brought Lange into the second season of his sitcom, The Norm Show. In 2001, Lange replaced Jackie Martling on The Howard Stern Show and stayed until late 2009, before a suicide attempt in early 2010 led to an eight-month stay in a psychiatric ward.

Lange has released recordings of comedy performances – It’s the Whiskey Talkin’ (2004) and Jack and Coke (2009). He co-wrote, produced and starred in his film Artie Lange’s Beer League in 2006, and co-wrote, with Anthony Bozza, the book Too Fat to Fish in 2008, which entered The New York Times Best Seller list at number one. In 2011, Lange returned to radio with Nick DiPaolo to co-host The Nick and Artie show.

With his mind consequently bent, Sasso decided at an early age to become an actor. At the age of fifteen, he landed his first agent and quickly began booking roles in television and film. Moviegoers know Sasso from his roles in more than twenty-five feature films including Best in Show (2000), directed by Christopher Guest, Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999),Beverly Hills Ninja (1997) starring the late Chris Farley, and The Hot Chick (2002) starring Rob Schneider and produced by Adam Sandler, with whom Sasso previously worked on Happy Gilmore (1996).

Kieran Gallagher

I’ve never seen anyone predict what’s going to happen 3 seconds before it does more accurately. It’s freaky. In our interview we talk about what scares him the most about being a stunt man and how he got into stunts. He then surprises me with a hidden skill-set I had no idea he had and he goes on to tell a fascinating and hair-raising story about where that skill-set lead him. Enjoy.

Alana Evans was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where her father was a soldier. When she was a few months old her parents divorced, and her mother moved with her and her sister to California. Alana realized at an early age that she was bisexual, and had her first experience with a woman at age 17. She married at 18 and became involved in the sex business in northern California. She and her husband became part owners in a strip club where Alana began dancing, and soon she was dancing in various clubs in the area. She knew that in order to become a headline dancer she would have to build a following, and decided that entering the adult film business was the best way to do it. Matt Mystery

Featuring a Special Operations ground-force commander who was responsible for carrying out KILL/CAPTURE missions in Iraq and Afganistan. I interviewed him after he came back from doing 5 tours in Iraq and Afganistan. He worked and commanded several JSOC missions where he worked with members of SEAL TEAM 6 and DELTA FORCE. He wasn’t allowed to go into details but I think a lot of what he shares here is interesting. He says he was a member of the RANGER 365 battalion but my guess is he was MORE than a Ranger. I think he was actually DELTA or something to that equivalent. Either way, he was a humble guy with a big heart who had a job to do. That job at times was obviously to kill people. War, in the end, is the business of killing people and we speak of that at length. The irony was he was doing so because he believed he was saving American lives. He was always ready to sacrifice his own life for his fellow commandos and from what I could gather (off mic) he had been in several fire fights and other hair raising situations where that conviction was put to the test. . This is a man with a strong ideology who could not afford to think to deeply about the bigger questions so many of us in the civilian world have the luxury of pondering. Happy listening! Nate Marquardt

Marquardt also runs an academy, High Altitude Martial Arts (Easton BJJ) located in Aurora, CO. Nate’s career is managed by Alchemist Management.

Nate first won the Pancrase Middleweight title in 2000. At the time, he was the youngest fighter to ever own the title “King of Pancrase.” Marquardt fought in Pancrase until 2005 and won 7 title fights in the process. Nate left Pancrase as the champion to pursue his dream of fighting the best fighters in the world. Nate has aquired wins in the UFC over top fighters such as Wilson Gouveia, Demian Maia, Jeremy Horn, Dean Lister, Martin Kampman, Joe Doerkson, Ivan Salaverry, Rousimar Palhares and Dan Miller. Nate recently signed with Strikeforce and will have some big news of his upcoming fight soon!

Jay Mohr has been performing stand-up comedy since he was sixteen years old. With a career that has spanned over three decades, Jay has become an artist that is very difficult to define. Never wanting to rest on his accomplishments, Jay has always pushed himself to be more than just a comic.

After landing his dream job of Saturday Night Live, it appeared as though Jay had reached the height of comedic success. Little did he know that just three years later, he would be cast opposite Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire and that same year co-star with Jennifer Anniston in Picture Perfect. Now the world that knew “comedian Jay” was quickly introduced to the “actor Jay.” Never wanting to choose one career over the other, Mohr has brilliantly balanced both acting and stand-up comedy as roommates in his brain.

Additionally, he has continuously added other genres to his journey and wrote the best selling book Gasping for Airtime about his time on SNL and his battle with panic attacks throughout his tenure on the show. To this day the book remains a must read for both fans of the show, followers of Jay, as well as people who suffer from social anxiety, depression and panic disorders.

On a much lighter note, Jay’s second book was the hilarious, No Wonder My Parents Drank, which describes in painful and beautifully funny detail the pros and cons of parenthood… which was subsequently optioned by ABC for development of a sitcom based on its content.

In the radio world, Jay is a regular guest host on the nationally syndicated Jim Rome Show as well as a regular contributor on the highest rated radio shows in the country, with multiple stints on Kevin and Bean and Opie and Anthony… just to name a few.

Jay Mohr is the rarest of entertainers. After 25 films and starring in his own groundbreaking series produced by Joel Silver and the late Ted Demme (Action) he recently starred in the CBS scripted comedy Gary Unmarried, which was critically acclaimed and was on for two seasons.

Jay has guest starred in over 50 different television dramas and comedy series episodes, but his most recent turn on an episode of Dick Wolf’s Law and Order: Criminal Intent as a Charlie Sheen type character ripped from the headlines, has garnered him the most attention and respect. “He’s really good” said Wolf, “it’s kind of odd because he is known as a comic and this is a highly dramatic role that a lot of dramatic actors would have had a very hard time eschewing and he does a great job.” He added “… you know, it’s like if you’re playing tennis against a club champion, you’re game should go up… the better the competition the better the game… and I think Jay really came to play.”

Throughout his journey, Jay still loves performing stand-up comedy it’s in his blood, his bones and his DNA. Anyone that has ever seen one of his concerts will be quick to tell you that there is no one better. Comedy Central agrees, having named Mohr one of the 100 greatest stand-up comics of all time. A simple bio doesn’t do the stage show justice… as there are no notes, no two shows the same, and an act that never picks on the audience. These are the three tenets that Jay believes makes great live comedy, and the foundation is laid when Jay often tells his audiences, “Lets just jump off a cliff together and build our wings on the way down!”

Michael Rapaport

Featuring film actor Michael Rapaport. A true New Yorker through and through, Michael Rapaport, the son of a radio program manager, may have moved to Los Angeles to try stand-up comedy following high school graduation (which came after a series of expulsions), but he never lost, forgot nor deserted his roots. It’s embedded in his work and is a major part of his low-keyed charm and ongoing appeal. His early idols were also New Yorkers (Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, etc.). He toiled only briefly in L.A. Within a short amount of time Michael moved from the live comedy stage to working in front of a camera. The two developed an immediate rapport. A guest spot on the TV series “China Beach” (1988) led to a starring role in the quirky interracial indie Zebrahead (1992), which clinched it for him. This, in turn, led to a string of standout parts in films, such as Christian Slater’s pal in True Romance (1993), an edgy collegiate-turned-skinhead in Higher Learning (1995) and a sympathetic none-too-bright boxer in Woody Allen’s Mighty Aphrodite (1995), all enabling him to build up a higher profile. In later years he managed to show his ease at offbeat comedy, demonstrating a kid-like, goofy charm as Lisa Kudrow’s cop boyfriend for a few episodes on “Friends” (1994) and as teacher Danny Hanson on “Boston Public” (2000). Lately he has formed his own production company, Release Entertainment, in search of that one big breakout role that could nab top stardom for him.

John Bloodclot

Featuring the lead singer for the Cro-Mags, John “Bloodclot” Joseph. Joseph was raised in foster care and grew up on the streets of New York. He was the lead singer for the New York hardcore punk band Cro-Mags from 1984 until 1987, though he departed and rejoined the band sporadically. He sang on their demo and on their first, third, and fourth albums (The Age of Quarrel, Alpha Omega, and Near Death Experience). He also sings lead on the Before the Quarrel CD, essentially a reissue of the demo.

Before, during, and after his time in the Cro-Mags, Joseph served as an occasional roadie for Bad Brains on several tours, and he sang background vocals on Antidote’s Thou Shalt Not Kill EP. He returned to the Cro-Mags briefly in the early to mid-1990s, but ongoing disputes with fellow band member Harley Flanagan made the project unsustainable.

Joseph sometimes goes by the nickname Bloodclot, as when performing with his band of the same name (styled with an exclamation point). He has also sung for the bands Mode of Ignorance, Both Worlds, and Fearless Vampire Killers. His autobiography, The Evolution of a Cro-Magnon, published in 2007, details the major events in his life, including his extensive involvement with the Hare Krishnas, as well his experiences with the Cro-Mags.

Patty Jenkins

Featuring Director of “Monster,” Patty Jenkins. A director with a remarkable grasp of characterization and emotional depth, Patty Jenkins stunned audiences in 2003 with her powerful debut feature, Monster. Based on the life of convicted serial killer Aileen Wuornos (played by a virtually unrecognizable Charlize Theron), Monster not only offered a thoughtful, compelling take of the killer’s tragic life, but also served to showcase Jenkins as a true talent to watch for. By the tender age of six, Jenkins had pretty much traversed the globe due to her father’s status as a fighter pilot; when it came time for Jenkins to pursue her higher education, she set her sights on Cooper Union. Though she hadn’t really considered a career in film to this point, her creativity and interest in painting certainly pointed to a career in the arts, and Jenkins’ interest in film was soon piqued. Following in the footsteps of such acclaimed filmmakers as David Lynch, Jenkins was soon accepted into the Experimental Film Program at the American Film Institute, despite an ever-increasing interest in creating narrative films. In 2001, a pair of short films, Just Drive and Velocity Rules (the recipient of the Warner Bros. Production Grant), began attracting attention to the young director.

Sam Brown

Featuring good friend, stand-up comedian Sam Brown. This is the 2nd installment of a 2 part series. Sam Brown’s career began the moment he came out of his mother’s womb and was ignored by his entire family. Like other needy performers before him he quickly developed an arsenal of tricks to get their attention including, his mastery of sarcasm, brutal put downs and an uncanny impression of his arthritic Aunt Selma.

After twenty-five years of honing his skills as a jackass, Sam took a job as a doorman at Catch A Rising Star where he was inspired to try his hand as a “professional” comic.

He was quickly voted “The Funniest Man in New York” by The Toyota Comedy Festival. Soon thereafter Sam began headlining top comedy clubs across the country and was featured in such festivals as Montreal’s Just For Laughs. In Los Angeles, Sam headlined a show for four years at Luna Park where his special brand of neurotic insanity was described by E! Entertainment as, “Sam is like watching a hurricane unleashed, bodies strewn across the comedy landscape, leaving no survivors in his path.” As a comic Sam has appeared on NBC’s, Stand Up Showcase with Louie Anderson, Comedy Central’s, Tompkins Square Park, Stand Up, Stand Up, Comic Remix, and BET’s pay per view special, Raw and Naked. In 2007 Sam released The Worst Noel, his first album, of Christmas song parodies.

Most recently Sam starred in his critically acclaimed one person show Neurotica which was directed by Jon Shear (Urbania) and had a successful run at the Hudson Guild Theatre, which was extended three times due to popular demand. Sam has made numerous appearances in both film and television. He has been featured as an actor in Inspector Gadget (with Matthew Broderick), The Curve, New York Undercover, and was a series regular on Comedy Central’s Dr. Katz and Comics On Delivery, as well as UPN’s, Home Movies.

Sam also wrote and starred in a short film called, Chutzpah: The Shmooale Glick Story, which was chosen as the pick of the week by The Independent Film channel and recently named one of the top five parodies in the history of the internet.

In the past few years Sam’s career as a screenwriter has taken off. He and his writing partner, Jack Angelo, have films in various stages of development at Disney and Offspring Entertainment (Undateable and Fear-Phil), Universal Studios (The Last Bash), New Line (Lucky), and Intermedia (Happily Ever After). Sam continues to develop new comedy content for the stage, screen, and television.

Dov Davidoff

Featuring good friend, actor and stand-up comedian Dov Davidoff. Hunters Maats

Hunter isn’t really a native of anywhere. Born in Saudi Arabia, he’d lived in Brazil, Greece and New York before his family moved to England when he was eight years old. There he attended Eton College, England’s most stodgy and prestigious all-boys boarding school. After high school, he pursued his love of science by spending a year doing tumor virus research at Cold Spring Harbor laboratory, where he lived in the basement of the home of James Watson, Nobel Laureate and co-discoverer of the double helical structure of DNA. It was a no-brainer for Hunter to major in Biochemistry when he enrolled at Harvard College in the fall of 2000. While at Harvard, Hunter devoted his spare time and his electives to a mixture of pranks and foreign languages. Occasionally, he mixed the two. After graduating, Hunter moved to Los Angeles and helped to found Overqualified Tutoring. A current owner of comically overstuffed bookshelves, Hunter has enjoyed tackling the one aspect of science that he has always found unsettling: the gap between the research that exists and the public’s knowledge. Today, Hunter spends his time finding more and more ways to bring those two together. When he’s away from the aforementioned bookshelves, Hunter can be found at cross-fit, eating Nicole’s food, or dreaming of Kansas City.

Kaite O’Brien

A native New Englander, Katie graduated first in her class from Pinkerton Academy, a New Hampshire regional public school of 3200 students, nestled in the most Norman Rockwell-y part of small-town America that you can imagine. She arrived at Harvard College in the fall of 2000 and majored in English and American Literature and Language, ultimately graduating magna cum laude. At Harvard, she also co-directed CityStep–a program that integrates arts education into the Cambridge public middle schools–and after graduating and moving to New York, she continued that work with high schoolers in NYC, Oxford, London, and Edinburgh. During this time, Katie also teamed up with Hunter and two other Harvard classmates to form Overqualified Tutoring, a NYC- and LA-based educational services company. She has spent thousands of hours tutoring and home-schooling students of all ages, and in all subject areas. Katie currently resides in Los Angeles…but still roots for the Red Sox from afar.

Anthony Tambakis

Featuring writer and producer of the Lions Gate film “WARRIOR,” Anthony Tambakis. Anthony Tambakis is a former Professor of Creative Writing, an award-winning short story writer, and recipient of a Paul Bowles Fellowship for fiction writing.
